Dancing with the Dentists is a charitable event being hosted to benefit two very important organizations in our community that have a very positive impact on the under-privileged population: Donated Dental Services and The Root Cellar. Dr. Glen Knock says,

“These charities do fantastic work and deliver millions of dollars of services to their patients. They are always looking for help and are at a point where they could greatly benefit from equipment updates. We felt these two programs could use a boost from the dentists of the state and hope to help provide funding that will truly make a difference in their delivery of care.”

Here is a little more information about these charities.

donated dental services logoDental Lifeline Network Maine, through its Donated Dental Services (DDS) program, provides access to comprehensive dental care for people with disabilities or who are elderly or medically fragile and cannot afford help. Dentists treat patients in their offices, never pay lab costs and there is no paperwork for office staff. DDS Program Coordinator Ann Caron screens patients, arranges for assistance from specialists and labs, and serves as the liaison between the dentist’s staff and the patient.

For more information or to volunteer (dentists, denturists, and labs), contact Ann at (207) 620-8276 or acaron@DentalLifeline.org

root cellar logoThe Root Cellar was established in 1984 in a dirt floor church basement in Portland. It was founded because of the need for a place where teens could come as an alternative to the streets, and in some cases their homes. Christian volunteers recognized this need and provided a positive place where the area youth could drop in for food, games and friendship.

In 2009, The Root Cellar opened a second site in Lewiston – Maine’s 2nd largest city. Located in the heart of the residential downtown neighborhoods.  The Root Cellar is committed to bringing enriching services to neighboring youth and their families.

After 30 years of hard work and determination, The Root Cellar is still committed as ever to serving and loving our neighbors.
